The role

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Research Associate or Research Assistant to contribute to the Computational Neuroscience projects aimed at translating insights from Systems Neuroscience into clinical research. These projects have been established through collaboration with the International Brain Lab (www.internationalbrainlab.com), a unique global collaboration, of twenty-two leading research groups, dedicated to decode the brain-wide neural basis of decision-making at single-cell resolution. The current projects aim to leverage these brain-wide datasets to study circuit-based neuropathological conditions observed in both mutant animals and human subjects.

Applicants should have/be (i) a Master's degree or above, preferably in Computational Neuroscience, a related field, or any quantitative disciplines such as physics and mathematics plus four years' relevant post-qualification work experience (for Research Associate) or a Bachelor's degree or above in the abovementioned disciplines (for Research Assistant); (ii) a proficient English speaker with good communication skills; (iii) demonstrated programming skills/experience, capable of analysing/modeling behavioral and neural data; (iv) responsible, organised, efficient, and self-motivated; (v) enthusiasm for research and collaboration. Candidates with research experience and knowledge in applied statistics, Python, and machine learning will be an advantage. On-the-job training, international exposure, publication opportunities, and further development prospects will be provided.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) analysing and modeling neural, behavioral, and other biological data; (b) developing and maintaining analytical methodologies/technical skills; (c) disseminating research findings; (d) collaborating with others within and outside the research projects; and (e) performing other tasks as assigned. He/She is expected to actively engage with scientific and clinical communities to enhance their methodological skills and theoretical understanding during their tenure.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Petrina Lau at yaupoklau@cuhk.edu.hk.
